What is Humped Nose Correction (Dorsal Reduction/Humpectomy)?

Humped nose correction (nose bump, dorsal nose hump) is when the patient’s nose has a raised bump on the nasal bridge and, sometimes, a drooping or pointy nose tip that can give off an angry impression. Humpectomy creates a beautiful and smooth nose by removing the bump on nasal bone and cartilages and lifting up the low nose tip.

Hump nose correction is recommended to you if:

    • You have a bump on your nose bridge.
    • You who have a drooping or pointy nose tip.
    • You have a droopy angle between the nasal bridge and philtrum (nasolabial angle).

Different Types of Hump Nose Correction

#1 | A Bump on Nasal Bridge

A hump bridge consists of nasal bones and cartilages. We can correct a hump nose by cutting hump on nasal bones and cartilages. Excessive removal or insufficient correction can lead to curvature, so it is vital for your nasal bridge to be operated by well-experienced, skilled medical professionals, and board-certified plastic surgery specialists such as our partnered hospitals and doctors here at Chérie Group Medical.

#2 | The Open Roof of the Nose

Since the nasal bones are fragile, removing bones could expose the cavities. If the opening is small and unnoticeable, it may be left as it is. However, if it’s wide or noticeable, it needs to be covered to avoid it being felt or noticed. There are three ways of achieving this.

nose1

NASAL BRIDGE AUGMENTATION

Silicone or Gore-Tex can be placed over the bridge to make a beautiful and smooth nose and to cover the opening.

nose2

LATERAL OSTEOTOMY

Lateral osteotomy is used to close a sizeable open roof by cutting along the sides of the nasal bone vertically and then gathered to tie the open roof.

nose3

AUTOLOGOUS NASAL SEPTUM CARTILAGE

If the patient wants neither augmentation rhinoplasty nor nasal osteotomy, an autologous nasal septum cartilage can be inserted into the roof of the nose to make a smooth nose shape.

#3 | Droopy nasal tip correction

Nasal tip correction is a procedure that raises the shape and repositions of the lateral cartilage at the tip of the nose.

The nose tip may be supported by inserting a support into the nostril (normally autogenous septal cartilage will be used), and muscle pulling the tip of the nose down may be cut to prevent the tip of the nose from sagging again after surgery.

#4 | Nasolabial Angle Correction

The correction of the nasolabial angle (columella labial angle), where the philtrum meets with the columella, is usually corrected by widening the angle only by lifting the tip of the nose (correction of the sagging tip). In some situations, an additional autologous cartilage is placed on the nasolabial angle to correct it.
